Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.: Loss of Steering Control from Bolt Failure

NHTSA Vehicle recall issued Sep 11, 2026.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2018 Tiguan, 2018-2019 Atlas, and 2019-2021 Audi Q3 vehicles. One of the bolts that attaches the steering rack to the subframe may corrode and break. If this happens, the steering rack housing can break. A broken steering rack housing can result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Look up your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows every open recall on your specific vehicle, not just the newest one.

The repair is free at any franchised dealer for that brand — there is no expiration on safety recall repairs, and you never pay for parts or labor.

If the notice says 'do not drive' or 'park outside,' take it literally. Those wordings are reserved for fire and crash risks.

Register your car seat with the manufacturer. Car seat recalls reach owners only if the seat is registered.

Bought used? Recalls follow the vehicle, not the owner, so an open recall from years ago is still yours to get fixed for free.
