Look up your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows every open recall on your specific vehicle, not just the newest one.

The repair is free at any franchised dealer for that brand — there is no expiration on safety recall repairs, and you never pay for parts or labor.

If the notice says 'do not drive' or 'park outside,' take it literally. Those wordings are reserved for fire and crash risks.

Register your car seat with the manufacturer. Car seat recalls reach owners only if the seat is registered.

Bought used? Recalls follow the vehicle, not the owner, so an open recall from years ago is still yours to get fixed for free.
