Rivian Automotive, LLC: Obstructed Rearview Camera Image/FMVSS 111

NHTSA Vehicle recall issued Sep 16, 2026.

Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T, and 2027 R2 vehicles. The rearview camera image may be obstructed by a notification when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility." An obstructed rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Look up your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It shows every open recall on your specific vehicle, not just the newest one.

The repair is free at any franchised dealer for that brand — there is no expiration on safety recall repairs, and you never pay for parts or labor.

If the notice says 'do not drive' or 'park outside,' take it literally. Those wordings are reserved for fire and crash risks.

Register your car seat with the manufacturer. Car seat recalls reach owners only if the seat is registered.

Bought used? Recalls follow the vehicle, not the owner, so an open recall from years ago is still yours to get fixed for free.
